oh hey this is a nice tf2 mod that i have downloaded from the interwebs now that i’ve put it on a model in sfm let me see how it looks with ambient occlusion
gOD DAMN IT WHY DO YOU NOT HAVE AO YOU PIECE OF
I don’t know anything about how models work but after comparing some shit I think it’s the lack of a normal map
I swear it has something to do with a normal map if not then I’m at a loss
Okay so if something doesn’t have AO in SFM it could be for a multitude of reasons. First of all if it has any transparency it could screw up SFM, so always check that first. If it is transparency to fix it you’d need to recompile it with $mostlyopaque to fix most of the AO problems. I’m not sure if not having a normal map will do it, since pretty much all the stuff I work on does have a normal map. But if it is the case, add this file to the materials folder and link it to the proper VMT under $bumpmap and see if that fixes it. If the texture has $ambientocclusion 0 in the VMT that would also mess with the AO.
Hey Apoc, thanks for the tips! Max suggested the same thing you did but with the shared_normal map instead (which is pretty much exactly the same thing you linked me) into the $bumpmap area. It worked!
I’m also reblogging this since a couple of people might want to know how to fix the transparent models issue.
